Windows Vista Signature Edition - Signierte Version von Bill GatesMicrosoft bringt neben den bekannten Version nun auch eine sogenannte „Signature Edition“ heraus. Allerdings ist streng limitierter Auflage von 20.000 Stück.

 

Was ist denn nun so besonderes an dieser Version? Eigentlich handelt es sich hierbei nur um einen „Ultimate Edition“ (Upgrade) von Windows Vista, das aber von Bill Gates höchstpersönlich signiert wurde.

Wer also nun unbedingt ein Autogramm von Bill Gates auf seiner Vista-Box haben möchte, der legt nochmal $10 drauf und bestellt ein Upgrade bei Amazon für $259.

Vorschau auf Vistas Service Pack 1

Unter VistaSP1.net wurde eine inoffizielle Seite gestartet, die alle für Windows Vista bereits verfügbaren Updates auflistet. Die aufgelisteten Updates lassen sich jedoch z.Zt. noch nicht herunterladen, sie sind nur direkt über den Support von Microsoft erhältlich, sofern man von dem Problem betroffen sein sollte.

Die Seite titelt mit “Windows Vista SP1 Preview – Codename Fiji Information Center”. Ob der Codename Fiji tatsächlich für das Service Pack 1 von Vista steht, ist zur Zeit noch fraglich, da nicht offiziell von Microsoft bestätigt. Ursprünglich sollte „Fiji“ eine Zwischenversion von „Vista“ und dessen Nachfolger „Vienna“ (ehemals „Blackcomb“) sein.

Bisher listet die Seite 7 Patches auf, soll aber künftig weiter aktualisiert werden.

McAfees Rootkit Detective

McAfee bietet in seinem „Threat Center“ neben einer neuen Version von „Avert Stinger“ auch ein Tool namens „Rootkit Detective“, das Rootkits aufspüren soll.

Zur Zeit befindet es sich noch im Beta-Status, soll aber sowohl versteckte Prozesse und Dateien, als auch versteckte Registry-Einträge finden.

Es sind jedoch schon einige Probleme mit dem Programm bekannt:

  • This tool will detect registry entries pertaining to McAfee Entercept Products if installed on your system.
  • This tool will detect mfehidk.sys file pertaining to McAfee Antispyware Enterprise (Standalone) as a hooked service.
  • This tool will detect IAT/EAT hooks in Windows 2000 SP4 system pointing to shim.dll.
  • This tool will detect vsdatant.sys from Zone Alarm as hooked service for rootkit like behavior.
  • This tool will detect Goback2k.sys as hooked service on system having Go Back software installed system for rootkit like behavior.
  • This tool will detect fsndis5.sys as hooked service from F-Secure if F-Secure Internet Security Suite 2006 is installed on the system.
  • This tool will detect klif.sys as hooked service from Kaspersky if Kaspersky Internet Security 2006 is installed on the system.
  • This tool will detect FireTDS.sys as hooked service from McAfee if McAfee Desktop Firewall is installed on the system.
  • This tool will detect Hidsys.sys as hooked service from McAfee if McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention is installed on the system.
  • This tool will detect Service Name ZwCreateThread when VSE product is installed on the system.
  • This tool will not run on Windows 2000 platforms when Kaspersky Internet Security 2006 is installed.
  • This tool will detect many IAT/EAT hooks and SSDT hooks of legitimate applications.

Es gibt also noch einigen Verbesserungsbedarf, vor Allem weil das Tool teilweise eigene Produkte aus dem Hause McAfee als Rootkits erkennt.

 

Das Tool läuft auf Windows-Systemen, auf welchen XP (Home | Pro) mit SP2 bzw. 2000 (Server: SP1; Professionell: SP4) installiert ist.

Heute habe ich ein nettes Päckchen von Opera Software bzw. Daniel Goldman mit einigen netten Dingen erhalten.

 

Im Päckchen enthalten waren:

  • ein Opera T-Shirt
  • ein Opera Kugelschreiber
  • zwei Aufkleber „There’s an Opera in my laptop„
  • ein „I love Opera“ Button
  • ein Prospekt mit Informationen über die Firma „Opera Software“
  • je ein Infoblatt zu Opera Mini bzw. zu Opera Widgets
  • und ein Anschreiben:

Leider habe ich kein Laptop, wo ich die schönen Sticker aufkleben könnte, aber es findet sich sicherlich noch was 😉
